Nanded Bomb Blast
The state intelligence wing has submitted a classified report
to the home department indicating the involvement of a fundamentalist
Hindu organisation in the mysterious bomb blast in Nanded. On April 6, a
blast in the house of a retired executive engineer of the irrigation
department claimed two lives and left three seriously injured.
The matter, initially investigated by the local police, was later
handed over to the Anti-terrorist Squad (ATS). An intelligence officer
dealing with the Nanded blast revealed that it is for the first time
that a fundamentalist Hindu group is known to be involved in such an
activity. He added that during investigation the police have recovered
maps of neighbouring districts like Aurangabad.
The home department has recommended that the case be transferred to
the ATS on the basis of the report submitted by the state intelligence.
Joint commissioner (ATS) K P Raghuvanshi said, "A team of ATS is looking
into the matter and we have arrested one Rahul Pande in
connection with the blast."
In the blast, Naresh Rajkondwar and Himanshu Panse — believed
to be involved in the preparation of the bomb — died on the spot, while
their cronies Yogesh Deshpande, Maruti Wagh and Gururaj Tupttewar
were seriously injured. A search of the house yielded a live pipe bomb
under a sofa along with bomb-making material.
Gujrat Brahmin
Terrorist
Ahmedabad, August 14: Citing the case of a “Brahmin
boy” from Bhavnagar who was arrested in 2002 for being an ISI agent,
Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has written in the RSS mouthpiece
Organiser that ISI networks and anti-terror polices should not be linked
to religion.
In the article titled “Governance and society in times of
terrorism”, which appears in the latest issue of the Organiser, Modi
writes: “...a criminal is a criminal, a terrorist is a terrorist, and
there is no religion for a criminal or a terrorist... ....”
The “Brahmin boy” Modi refers to is in fact a 50-year-old ex-Armyman,
Indravadan Chandulal Bhatt, now serving a 14-year jail sentence.
On July 14, 2002, the Bhavnagar police had busted an ISI module with
the arrest of Bhatt. Maps, secret military correspondence, details of
tank deployments, and a diary containing names and phone numbers of his
contacts in Lahore were seized from him.
‘‘In fact, he was nabbed while he was making a call to a contact in
Lahore,’’ says former Bhavnagar SP Anupamsinh Gehlot.
In prison he was picked up by ISI spotters, who promised to arrange
for a fake passport. During that time he also converted to Islam and
took the name Sameer. He was taken to Pakistan on the fake passport and
later entered
India through the Nepal border....,” Gehlot says.
In his article, Modi writes: ‘‘Here in Bhavnagar, we busted a module,
and a Brahmin boy was caught, who is serving time in prison. ISI
networks should not be linked with religion
