Ask firmly to get included in OBC
category else...
Mahesh Kadam
Namaskaar,
Firstly, let me introduce myself.
I'm Mahesh Kadam. I'm from Konkan. After finishing my engineering
degree, I've been working with a software major of our country since
last 2.5 years.
I am Maratha by caste and I feel like part of bahujan samaaj. I've been
following your thought process since quite some time. But, I am really
afraid that we are deviating from most important issues and talking
about brahmanism spread since long time.
As per my information, more than 80% of maharashtra population is formed
by bahujan samaaj. This includes more than 35% of maratha population.
And as is expected, bahujan samaaj is not represented even by miniscule
in knowledge society, which I'm part of. The least portion of this
minority is of Maratha people.
I come from Konkan, as I've earlier mentioned. There every community
other than Brahmins and CKP, faces abject poverty, unlike western
maharashtra.
I, myself come from very poor family. Unlike western and other parts of
Maharashtra, where Maratha caste dominates politics, in Konkan, marathas
are not dominant in politics. In absence of co operative movement, only
source of their income is small pieces of land, which are not that
fertile. Hence, poverty is staying with them. Education and knowledge
are the areas in which marathas and other bahujan samaj never invested.
Brahmins, astutely knew that future lies in knowlege economy, hence they
went after education fiercely, hence they are well off today.
Reservation has helped bahujan samaaj to overcome the obstacles and some
people are earning degrees and their living on that basis. But, here is
the glitch. Although, before reservation came into picture all bahujan
samaaj was backward and lagging behind brahmins and other white collar
castes.
Reservation has helped other castes than marathas. With reservation,
only marathas, especiall marathas from Konkan region staying in abject
poverty are suffering the most. Brahmins and other white collar castes
are in education business since long time, hence they don't have
problems. Other castes, with the help of reservation are progressing.
But we are going behind.
I'm the first person in my whole clan in my whole area to go abroad. I'm
the first person to be engineer. To reach here, I had to struggle like
anything.
I could see arround, brahmins were there at top in corporate and
education fields since generations, so they don't face problems. Other
people from bahujan samaaj are coming there. But, I don't find marathas
there.
Can you please tell me why Marathas are not part of OBC community, which
are considered bahujan samaaj?
If not, why are we not stating our stand firmly and get the same
reservation?
In south, every other caste other than Brahmins get reservation, then
why not in Maharashtra. Just because, marathas in western region have
dominated politics, why should other poor marathas suffer?
Even in western maharashtra, education is not widespread in marathas.
Just keep in mind, future is in knowledge economy and in education and
not in politics. If you don't pay attention to this, we will die with
hunger and you will be responsible.
Keep aside unimportant issues and concentrate this issue which affects
our future generation. Ask firmly to get included in OBC category or
else see your sons and daughters cursing you for generations.
We are so away from education that we don't even know importance of
reservation and this issue but when we will realise that it will be too
late to act.
Regards,
Mahesh
